What is AMR and why is the power district installing it?

AMR stands for Automated Meter Reading. The system, provided by Canon Technologies, requires us to replace all meters in the district with computerized meters that can talk with our office.

The power district is installing this technology because we feel there will be a cost savings over time with deployment. Right away, we have the  expense of meter reading gone. Secondary benefits include better monitoring of the system, more information on outages, and better control of the energy in our system.
